Buying Used Printers

If money is really tight for you, buying a used printer can be a great way for you to find the value you are looking for. Granted, many brands and models of printers are quite affordable these days. Yet if you want a model that is more than you have budgeted for, a used one may be a great way for you to get what you want now instead of saving up for it.

For those that don't have much income or college students, most will agree that a used printer is better than none at all. It can be frustrating to always try to get to the library to print materials that you need. It can be inconvenient and you will need to have a way to transfer the data from your computer to theirs.

The biggest problem though is you really don't know how a used printer has been treated. Does it have lots of life left in it? Does it come with full ink cartridges or is that going to be an expense for you right away? Is there a warranty if the printer doesn't work for you? Chances are these types of items will be sold as is.

It never hurts to ask why someone is selling a printer though. It could be that they got a new computer and it came with a free printer. That is a common enough promotion out there. They may have outgrown the need for a basic printer so they upgraded to one that was faster or offered them additional features.

Where you will find the most value though with used printers is in the area of commercial ones that are often used in printing businesses. They may have gone out of business, retired, or simply upgraded their equipment. As a result they are selling their used items for a fraction of what they paid for them. Once again though you need to find out what the quality is before you buy them. You want to only invest in a used printer that has lots of life left in it.

There are plenty of places too out there where you will find used printers. The local newspaper and bulletin boards around colleges may have them featured. The internet is a great place too. Both eBay and Craigslist are common places where people offer such items that they wish to sell.
